Magnetic Powder

Soft magnetic powders are typically iron based alloy blended with elements like Si, Ni, Co or Al to optimize magnetic performance, including Fe-Si, Fe-Ni, Fe-Co series and also amorphous /nanocrystalline alloys by adding boron or phosphorus offering ultra-low core loss.

The production method of our soft magnetic alloy powders includes water atomization and gas atomization. Water atomized soft magnetic alloy powders might be more common. For amorphous powders rapid solidification techniques may be used.

Soft magnetic powders commonly are used in electronics components like inductors, transformers, motors. Some key properties of soft magnetic part produced by its powder include:

– low coercivity: easily magnetized or demagnetized, minimizing energy loss.

– high permeability: efficient magnetic flux conduction

– low core loss: reduced hysteresis and eddy current losses, critical for high frequency application.

– high resistivity: achieved via alloying to suppress eddy currents.

The powder’s particle size, shape, and distribution are probably important for the application. The soft magnetic powder by gas atomization process is spherical shape which is more suitable for 3D printing.
